Sometimes I begin with an idea or the idea takes shape when I begin working with clay. In either case, the sculpture or model creates itself and my hands follow. This particular piece tells a story about fairytales.
This is a real boot that wore out its purpose as footwear and became a story. The gnome on the swing, the large vine, and the wonky chimney give hints as to the new purpose of the boot -- a home to a fantasy.
I allow the creative process to flow and it will often challenge me to make something a little different. This particular photo is of a fairytale book safe. The door is hinged to be opened to reveal a secret -- or not so secret -- compartment.
